India vs Australia 1st Test Highlights: IND thrash AUS by an innings and 132 runs, take 1-0 lead in series

Now the two teams are absolutely evenly poised, in fact one could say that Australia have taken the advantage for this session at least with the wickets of Kohli and SKY. Strange decision from Suryakumar to try and hit a cover drive against the spin off the very first ball that he faced from Nathan Lyon, a bowler he has never faced before in his life. Ravindra Jadeja is now in the middle after which there will be Axar Patel and then, Australia will be into the Indian tail. 

What a delivery that is from Lyon and SKY falls first ball of the 60th over. Lyon draws SKY into the drive with a tossed up delivery outside off, the batter misses as the ball spins through the gigantic gap he left between bat and pad and the ball hits the stumps. This is a great start to the session from Australia. 

Suryakumar Yadav b Lyon 8 (20), India 168/5, trail by 9 runs

That is a beauty. He owns the pull shot, takes it from outside off and sends it backward of square. He moves to 93 with that shot. 

Suryakumar Yadav got off the mark with a four, as you would expect and is currently sitting on six off 12 balls. Rohit, on the other hand, is on 87 off 147. Anyone who is familiar with SKY's Ranji career would know that his normal first class strike rate is nothing out of the ordinary. Don't expect any forced fireworks here, SKY will hit 'em only if he feels it is the right way to go. 

Oh Kohli has been strangled down the leg side and Alex Carey takes quite a spectactular catch! Todd Murphy has four! The perfect debut for the spinner. Murphy bowls this one well outside off, Kohli tries to tuck it away, ends up getting an edge to it. Carey does brilliantly to move with the ball and take it in two attempts.

Sanjay Manjrekar said during commentary before the start of the day's play that he was “surprised” that Murali Vijay sat at the top of conversion rates for centuries among Indian players at home. Vijay, as one would expect, hasn't taken that too kindly. “Surprised wow,” he tweeted. He then said in another tweet that “Some Mumbai ex players can never be appreciative of the south” with some handy hashtags likes “#showsomelove” “#equality” and  “#fairplayforall”

He has scored centuries in all formats of the game and as captain, he has scored centuries in ODIs and T20Is. Now he could complete the set with a Test century. Rohit Sharma has look pretty much indestructible in this innings. 

74 runs and two wickets in this session. Rohit Sharma is on 85 off 142 balls, Kohli on 12 off 25. Another intriguing session of Test cricket and one gets the feeling that India do need Rohit and Kohli to put up a strong stand to cement their advantage in this match. The second session will be an interesting one indeed and crucial to deciding which way this game goes. 

India are 150/3 in 51 overs. Nathan Lyon is bowling the over, Virat Kohli is on strike on 11 off 24, Rohit Sharma on 85 off 137. 

Nathan Lyon pitches it up from around the wicket, Kohli takes a step down and utterly smashes it along the ground through mid-on. That ball reached the boundary in a couple of seconds, Kohli reaches 9 in 19 balls. 

Kohli nearly ran out Rohit there. He plays it to leg and instinctively starts running down the pitch. He then sees the ball has gone straight to midwicket and reverses the call but Rohit is almost halfway up the pitch already. He turns around and puts in a dive and luckily for him the throw was off-target. India 142/3. 

Murphy errs in length for the first time to Kohli and the latter punishes him for it. He puts away the half volley on off along the ground past the bowler for four. India 142/3 in 47 overs, Kohli moves to 5 off 11 and he will face Nathan Lyon in the next. 

A bit of a gift for Murphy, Pujara falls to his aggressive frame of mind really. Loose ball outside leg, Pujara goes down on one and tries to sweep it fine. Failss to keep it down and is caught at fine leg. That is as uncharacteristic a dismissal as it gets for Cheteshwar Pujara.  

Pujara c Boland b Murphy 7 (14), India 135/3, trail by 42 runs

Murphy strays down the leg side and Rohit it flicks it away for another four. He moves to 81 off 118. 

Appeal for LBW and caught at slips. Both denied and Australia review. As it turns out there was no bat involved and the ball was missing the stumps so they lose a review. 

Straight half-volley from Murphy, Rohit latches on to it. He flicks it to the boundary through midwicket, moves to 77. 

Cheteshwar Pujara has come in with an intention to score some runs allright. He flicked two runs off the first ball he faced, then tried a punch to cover and then came down the track for the ball after that as well. Then Murphy sends in a bit of a gift and Pujara doesn't let it go, rocks back and punches through square for four. He has scored six runs in five balls. 

Big sigh of relief, they have got the “nightwatchman” at last. It was three reds from the ball-tracker and Ashwin seemed to be telling Rohit Sharma that he knows he is done for before the replays started rolling. 

Ashwin lbw b Murphy 23 (62), India 118/2, trail Australia by 59 runs

Murphy continues to be the chief source of danger. Fullish delivery from around the wicket, straightens into the right hander and it hits Ashwin on the front pad. The umpire had shaken his head and Australia go for the DRS. 

Rohit on 73 off 108 balls and Ashwin 22 off 56. Australia might be feeling a bit cheated here considering the fact that India's “nightwatchman” is playing like a top order batter. Ashwin is looking just as solid as Rohit and they both are pretty much sharing the strike now. 

Partnership between Ashwin and Rohit has now reached 41 off 85 balls. Just six runs in the last four overs so Australia have been able to plug the flow of runs temporarily at least. They need wickets, though, for now India are as comfortable as they can be. 

Last ball from Lyon in the 35th over is a straight one, takes a thick edge off Rohit's bat but it stays nicely on the ground and races towards the boundary. Lyon goes down on his haunches with a wry smile, Rohit moves to 72 off 97. India trail by 62. 

Rohit Sharma is on 68 off 91 and Ashwin is on 21 off 43. Scott Boland bowled the 34th over, his first over of the day. His best Test figures are a ridiculous 6/7 and how Australia would love to have that now. He is doing a good job of containing the Indians thus far though, with this one being a maiden. Boland has given just four runs in as many overs, two of which have been maidens. 

Lyon sends the second ball of the next over full, Ashwin goes down on one knee and fetches it from outside off with a slog-sweep and the ball goes sailing over the boundary. No fielder could have ever got anywhere close to this one. Ashwin moves to 20 off 36!

India 102/1. The Rohit Sharma pull shot is in the house and where is the fun in it if he does not hit it right over a fielder's head for six. Short from Cummins, Rohit pulls and it is just out of reach for deep square leg.
