A dejected Gautam Gambhir expressed his disbelief on seeing his former team Kolkata Knight Riders go down without a fight against Sunrisers Hyderabad in an IPL 2019 match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday. KKR were thrashed by 9 wickets after Sunrisers sleepwalked to the 160-run target set by the visitors thanks to twin half-centuries by openers David Warner and Jonny Bairstow.

KKR, who were sitting on top of the IPL points table after winning four out of their first five matches, have now slumped to No. 6 in the points table and are in danger of missing out on a play-off berth. The Knight Riders have lost all of their last five matches – their worst losing streak in IPL in recent memory. The dismal show by KKR left former captain Gautam Gambhir dejected.

Known for speaking his heart out, Gambhir posted a heartfelt tweet almost immediately after the KKR vs SRH match ended. “It’s tough to see @KKRiders go down like this. Come on guys there is loads of talent in that dressing room,” Gambhir tweeted.

Gambhir, however, did sound confident that Dinesh Karthik’s men can turn things around if they regroup quickly. “Just regroup fast, believe in yourself and go for the kill. We can do it!!!!!!” his tweet read.

Notably, Gambhir had led KKR for 7 years since 2011 before being released by the franchise ahead of IPL 2018. KKR won two IPLs – in 2012 and 2014 – under Gambhir’s leadership. The former India opener has time and again mentioned that KKR will always remain very close to his heart. Gambhir was picked up by Delhi Capitals in IPL 2018 auctions only to be dropped by mid-way because of poor form. Gambhir announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in December 2018.
