KKR bowl first

Kolkata Knight Riders have won the toss and have opted to field

Dinesh Karthik: We are looking to bowl first. The wicket will play pretty even throughout, so we want to chase. We have some good memories on this ground. We are looking forward to put up a good performance for the crowd. We didn’t make it to the finals last year but it was a good effort by us. It’s important we take one game at a time, as it’s a long tournament.

15:29 hrs IST

Pitch report

This wicket is a bit two paced and spin will play a big part. The average first innings average score at Eden Gardens is 175 and that would be a good score, reckons Michael Clarke in his pitch report.

15:20 hrs IST

Sayan - Captain fantastic Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik has won more than 50% of his matches as captain of the side last season. Not only is he a good leader but also a reliable batsman in the middle-order who knows how to pace his innings depending upon the situations.

15:20 hrs IST

Manish - Vijay Shankar, the man to watch out for

Vijay Shankar, after his impressive performances with the Indian team, would hope for a stellar show this season to seal his spot in the World Cup squad.

David Warner is back and this is the season which can convince the Australian selectors to include him in the World Cup playing XI.

15:09 hrs IST

Sayan- West Indian power to take care of things

All-rounders Sunil Narine and Andre Russell form a lethal duo for KKR as both possess the power to send the ball miles into the stand and take wickets for their team as well. Narine and Russell scored runs at a strike rate of 189.89 and 184.79 respectively which was the best last season (minimum 150 runs).

Manish - Bowling attack

Hyderabad bowling attack have defended more low totals than any other side in the league. They have retained their core, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan are the gun bowlers in the side, but the backup options in Siddarth Kaul, Billy Stanlake, Khaleel Ahmed and Shakib Al Hasan make this attack a perfectly rounded one.

14:54 hrs IST

Sayan - KKR spinners

The spin trio - Kuldeep, Narine, Chawla on an Eden Gardens surface will have all the answers to almost anything thrown at them. Dinesh Karthik has also shown that he can handle them perfectly and for the side, their importance is immense

Manish - SRH’s foreign crew

Kane Williamson and David Warner will be the key men at the top of the order for the side. Also, Rashid Khan and Shakib al Hasan in the middle order render an almost impregnable look to the side. The side has acquired such effective players and have also managed to retain the core, the perfect balance heading into the match

14:49 hrs IST

Sayan hits right back

Ahh, there is no worry. KKR do not even need the young bright batsmen, they have Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn at the top of the order and before you blink, a platform would have been set for the side. So bring on the bowlers, the openers for KKR will take care of them

14:45 hrs IST

Manish fires the warning

For SRH, they have the bowlers, and against KKR, which has a young batting order, the bowlers can run rampant and wink the opposition out without even a blink.
