Commentary

11:38 AM IST No action in Bready - We have had a frustratingly wet start to the series, and the washout will be disappointing for both teams. With the ODI World Cup next year, every opportunity to spend time in the middle is valuable. More so for Ireland, who were returning to ODI cricket for the first time since May last year and will now have to wait a little longer to get back into the 50-over groove. The two teams will meet again in Bready for the second ODI on Friday, 7th August, with play scheduled to begin at 9.45 am GMT. Here's hoping the weather is far more cooperative and allows us to get the series up and running. For now, you can follow all the action from The Hundred and later today, Day 4 of the second Test between West Indies and Pakistan. Take care, and goodbye for now.
11:29 AM IST MATCH ABANDONED - Well, not many would have seen this coming, and even those who did probably wouldn't have expected it this early. Persistent rain throughout the morning left the ground staff with little opportunity to get the ground ready, with the outfield simply too wet underneath. Coupled with the forecast of more rain later in the day, the officials have opted to abandon the match.
11:09 AM IST 11.07 am GMT - Oh dear, the rain is back. The ground staff have covered the pitch with a white sheet for now, although the hover cover has not been brought back on just yet. With the rain returning, the clean-up work has come to a halt, and we will have to wait for another break in the weather before preparations can resume.
10:56 AM IST 10.52 am GMT - We now have visuals from the ground, with the hover cover being removed from the pitch. That is an encouraging sign ahead of the scheduled inspection, although the square covers are still on. There is also a stiff breeze blowing across the ground, which should aid the drying process.
10:38 AM IST 10.30 am GMT - We are hearing that the rain has stopped, with blue skies now visible. It had been raining since early this morning, so the ground staff will still have a challenging task on their hands to get the outfield ready. Fingers crossed the weather holds and gives them enough time to work their magic.
9:59 AM IST What else is on today? It may well have been a wet start to the day in Bready, but there is plenty of cricket to keep fans occupied elsewhere. Four matches are lined up across the men's and women's competitions in The Hundred, while Day 4 of the second Test between West Indies and Pakistan is also on the agenda. Pakistan made significant inroads during the final session on Day 3, leaving West Indies with an uphill battle as they hold a lead of just 60 runs and only four wickets in hand. Adding to the home side's concerns is Brandon King's fitness, who injured himself while effecting the run-out of Babar Azam. There remains uncertainty over whether he will be able to bat on Day 4.
