LSG vs DC, IPL 2023 Highlights: Mark Wood takes five as Lucknow Super Giants beat Delhi Capitals by 50 runs

Wood ends up with figures of 5/14 which is just extraordinary. DC had got off to a good start in this chase but Wood just turned the tables on them in two overs. Ravi Bishnoi followed that up with the big wickets of Rossouw and Powell. Then Wood came back with his fire to take two more and complete his fifer. Some big hitting and some fiery pace has started the season off for LSG.  

A maiden IPL five-wicket haul for Wood on his LSG debut. Sakariya holes out at short midwicket and that gives Wood his fifth.

Mark Wood has become a crowd favourite in Lucknow already. He takes a while to mark his run up and then dismisses Axar Patel off the very first ball. 4/10 are is figures for now. Extraordinary from the England World Cup winner. 

Hits a four and a six off the third and the fourth balls of the over. DC need 63 to win off 12 balls after that over, in case you are wondering.

Warner miscues his lofted drive and is caught at long on. That is that for the DC captain and for the match really. No chance for Delhi to chase this down. The only thing they can do is damage control now. 

Warner c Gowtham b Avesh Khan 56 (48), DC 113/7 in 16 overs

The impact player Aman Khan top edges his pull and is caught by Nicholas Pooran. Another one bites the dust. Axar Patel comes in next. He has been in sensational form with the bat but that is in Test cricket, this is a different kind of game altogether.

It's all on Warner now. DC need 84 to win in the last six overs, which is a long shot if there was any.

That is Warner's 56th half century in the IPL, which is just ridiculous. But it has come in 45 balls, which is not good at all for DC. It is all on him now. 

The match slipping out of DC's hands now and this might be a nice big win for LSG to start their season as well. googly from Bishnoi that skids on from outside off and takes Powell on the pads. Plumb out and that's another big blow.

Powell lbw b Ravi Bishnoi 1 (3), DC 96/5 in 14 overs

Big appeal for LBW from Bishnoi but umpire is unmoved. Bishnoi begs for a review and Rahul goes for it. Looks pretty bad for the batter as the umpire checks the ultraedge. Rossouw, in fact marches off even before replays started showing and so he is gone for sure, the third umpire's call just a formality. Wow, what a blow this is for DC.

Unadkat seemed set for a catch off the fifth ball of the 10th, he takes a chest high catch, tried flicking the ball up as his momentum took one foot over the boundary but when he caught it, his other foot was touching the rope! DC are 75/3 in 10 overs. 

Warner is on 32 off 30, Rilee Roussouw at the other end with five off six. Roussouw is a dangerous player and so DC still well within a chance of pulling off this chase. Wood is sure to be taken off now. 

Wood bangs it in for the last ball of the seventh at 137kph, Sarfaraz ducks and seems to make a last second decision to try a ramp. He ends up middling it but puts it straight down the throat of deep fine leg.

That over was pure havoc. The hat-trick ball ended up being declared a no-ball after David Warner reviewed a bouncer. Sarfaraz Khan took a swing at the free hit delivery and it took an edge and was caught behind. Which means in some other universe, Mark Wood has got a hat-trick. Sarfaraz survives the last two balls and that's the end of that little phenomenon. 

Wow another 147kph howitzer and Marsh is beaten by the sharp inward movement. The stumps have been smashed up. Wood on a hat-trick, jeepers creepers!

The last delivery of the third sent in at 137kph by Avesh and Warner gets a bottom edge on an attempted cut that goes straight behind for four. Some luck for the DC skipper.

Gowtham goes short on middle, Warner pulls fiercely over square leg to the rope. DC are 33/0 after 3 overs. 

Back of a length on the hips from Unadkat to Warner for the last ball of the second and that disappears to the deep fine leg boundary. Warner had hit another off the fourth and Shaw had got one off the second so expensive over for LSG.

Warner gets a boundary off the third ball and so that is a good tally from the first over for DC. LSG may have a good total on board but the dew factor will make this defence a tough nonetheless. 

All right, Kyle Mayers, who opened the batting brilliantly for LSG, now opens the bowling. Prithvi Shaw is facing up with David Warner at the other end.

"It was a tricky surface at the start. It kept a bit low and the bounce was variable. But it's still a good wicket. Our bowlers need to use the wicket, it's gripping a bit and I think we'll be in good stead. [On the ball that got him out.] I think that's the drier end of the pitch. There's an area on that pitch that's very dry and the other end is full of grass so I think the spinners need to execute from that end in particular. It's a new surface. I tried to get information from the guys. It's tricky trying to get accustomed as fast as possible. [On being dropped on 14] It's always good to get some luck. Sometimes you play a good shot and a guy takes a blinder. So I'm happy to get an opportunity. I just wanted to do well on my first game and help my team and I did that."

And the impact player Gowtham lives up to his billing! He hits the only ball he faces for a six, 22 runs off the last over for LSG. It is going to be hard to get a bigger “Impact Player” moment than that this season. Slower ball outside off, Gowtham smacks it over the bowler's head. LSG have scored over 190 runs on a pitch that Rovman Powell said looked slow. Yikes!

Krishnappa Gowtham has come on to bat as an impact player and he will face just one ball. LSG taking the definition of impact player quite literally. He comes in from Badoni and so some skilfull maneuvering here from LSG. 

What a blinder this youngster has played today, he ends up edging it to the wicketkeeper.
