England vs India Commentary

7:37 PM IST Over and out - Well, that is all from Chester-le-Street then. But worry not, there is still plenty of cricket to come with four T20Is left in this series to look forward to. Let's hope that the weather in Manchester will be a pleasant one as the teams head to Old Trafford for the 2nd T20I, on Saturday, 4th July, 2026. The first ball is scheduled to be bowled at 7 pm IST (1.30 pm GMT). But before that, action will be at its peak at The Oval as the second semifinal of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, 2026 will be played between England Women and South Africa Women. So do tune in for that on Thursday, 2nd July, 2026 at 5.30 pm GMT. Our buildup will begin in advance, though. But from here, we sign off. Take care, cheers!
7:26 PM IST The chase will definitely be a shortened one now, and with every minute that passes, more overs will be eaten into. And just as we say that, the news no one wanted comes through. THE MATCH HAS BEEN ABANDONED DUE TO RAIN. The players shake hands in the dressing room and that is that. Rain persisted throughout the first innings but the players pushed on through it as it never quite got heavy enough to stop play. Such a shame then that it chose to really come down at the worst possible moment, robbing us of what promised to be a fascinating chase. With the cutoff time still around 40-odd minutes away, there was technically time left on the clock, but the rain showed no intention of stopping either.
7:04 PM IST 12.30 am IST (7 pm GMT) - Nothing new to update. It is still raining out there and the downpour is very steady. We are afraid that we will start to lose overs from hereon. We are still an hour away from the cutoff, but it looks pretty bleak right now. As of now, the covers are firmly placed on the pitch and the squares. The wait continues and so does the race against time...
6:53 PM IST 12.20 am IST (6.50 pm GMT) - Nothing new to report from Durham for now, as it is still raining and there is a forecast for rain right throughout the evening. Also, there isn't a concrete update, but the deadline for the start of a 5-over chase is around 1.30 am IST (8 pm GMT). We will get the latest updates from the ground, so stay tuned.
6:32 PM IST UPDATE - 12 am IST (6.30 pm GMT) - The rain is still falling, and the covers are firmly in place for now. Also, according to a few sources, it is a proper downpour at the moment. Not good signs, but we have gotten the first innings out of the way, which means there's enough room for a shortened chase, if necessary. For now, let's just keep our fingers crossed and hope that the rain recedes.
