Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians Commentary

6:18 PM IST Signing off from a classic - That brings us to the end of an entertaining contest where Mumbai Indians put a dent in Punjab Kings' playoff hopes with a dramatic win. Next up in IPL 2026, we have a clash between Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings on 15th May, Friday. The game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but you can join us early for all the build-up. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
6:14 PM IST PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Tilak Varma wins the award for his match-winning 75* off 33. He  says that he loves finishing the games and playing at the international level has helped him finish off games better. Adds that they didn't expect a wicket like this as the ball stay a bit low and slow and even Punjab struggled at the start with the bat. Mentions that they wanted to take the game deep and is glad that he could stay till the end and get his team over the line. Tilak further mentions that he told his coach in the final strategic break that they needed one big over and they got it. On Jacks' knock, Varma says that it was a good one as he held his shape well and was able to put the slower balls away, which was difficult to do on this track.
6:13 PM IST The victorious skipper of Mumbai Indians - Jasprit Bumrah says that it was a good game of cricket and they pulled back well. They fumbled with some catches, but overall it was a great game. He adds that the wicket was a bit on the drier side, and it was not as cold as it was earlier, but they were clear about what they had to do. Bumrah reckons that the plan was to hit right lengths and their bowlers did the job well. He further says that Shardul and Tilak deserve equal credit, and Tilak held onto his nerves well. He ends by saying that he had a great time here and he enjoyed it a lot.
6:09 PM IST PBKS let it slip again - Punjab Kings just cannot find a way to get over the line. Arshdeep Singh was superb in the Powerplay, conceding just 8 runs in his two overs, before Yuzvendra Chahal turned the game around in the middle overs by removing Rohit Sharma and giving away only 12 runs in his first three overs. However, a slight miscalculation from Shreyas Iyer proved costly as Chahal was held back for the 16th over, where he was smashed for 20 runs to swing the momentum again. Azmatullah Omarzai responded brilliantly with a two-run over and a wicket, finishing with two scalps to pull things back in PBKS' favour. But Marco Jansen's tough season continued as he leaked 22 runs with 50 needed off 18, while Arshdeep also struggled at the death. In the end, Bartlett could not defend 14 in the final over as Punjab Kings fell short once again.
6:02 PM IST Presentation Time...
6:02 PM IST A quick chat - MI's Will Jacks says that he's feeling better with that victory, as the season hasn't gone their way, but they will look to end on a high. On batting with Tilak Varma, he says that the conversation was about the long boundary on one side and they knew that the opposition would try to defend one side. Jacks says that it wasn't about pace off but rather bowling back of a length as the ball skid through and that's what the opposition tried to do as well.
