Sri Lanka Under-19 vs West Indies Under-19 Commentary

4:15 PM IST Right then, that's it from the coverage of this game. More action coming your way from the U-19 World Cup on 31st January 2024. The next fight in Group 2 will be between Australia U-19 and England U-19. In simple words, the Youth Ashes. So do join us for the same as the first ball will be at 1.30 pm IST (8 am GMT). Although, you can join us for the build-up as well. Take care and goodbye!
4:12 PM IST West Indies U-19 skipper Stephan Pascal says that he is happy with the win and says that it was a difficult track to bat. Says that they have pitches like these in the Caribbean so they didn't find it difficult to adapt. Adds that the partnership between Dinura Kalupahana and Malsha Tharupathi propelled them to cross 230. Says that they just need to focus on the basics and avoid giving the wickets away in the coming games. Further adds that the lower order did the job for us. Ends up saying that they will prove to the world that they have big muscles and can defeat any team across the world.
4:12 PM IST Sineth Jayawardena, the captain of Sri Lanka Under-19 is in for a chat. He starts by saying he felt that 231 should be enough. Expected the pitch to provide plenty turn and that was a part of the plan. The gameplan was to make the most of the Powerplay, although they could not do the damage here. Adds that the top-order batter needs to bat longer and set the tone.
4:10 PM IST Steve Wedderburn wins the Player of the Match for his exceptional 61. He says that he is happy with the win and it means a lot to them. Adds that he just kept thinking positively and kept rotating the strike which gave him more confidence. Further says that it was a tricky surface to bat but says that the discussion was to be adaptive and play less risky shots. Concludes by saying that the boys did very well overall.
4:09 PM IST Stay tuned for the presentation...
4:02 PM IST You see, Sri Lanka have played at this venue throughout the group stages, and they surely learned one thing, that is, you need spinners to take this game deep with the ball and hence they came into this game with an extra spinner. It did certainly worked in their favour, as it was the spin duo of Sineth and Vishwa who got rid of both the set-batters in Johnson and Wedderburn in a span of 8 deliveries. Sri Lanka only conceded 25 run and picked up a wicket as well during 31-40 overs. Just the squeeze they were looking for, but eventually they could not make the most of it. Nathan Sealy played a wonderful knock coming down the order, he made sure to keep the scoreboard ticking from his end. In the end, he found an able partner in Tarrique Edward. The two ran hard between the wickets, put pressure on the opposition and then even took their side over the line to move to spot number two. Sri Lankan skipper ending up using 8 bowlers until the final over, one seamer in Dinura Kalupahana ended with a brace. He is the one who drew the first blood. The spinners were relentless in the middle overs for them. They kept probing but just could not get the better of the batters. Vishwa Lahiru, Sineth Jayawardena ended with a brace as well.
4:01 PM IST West Indies have been known for their aggressive approach up top and they showcased it once again here. It was their skipper, Stephan Pascal, and Steve Wedderburn who set the tone of this run chase. They stitched a 48-run stand for the first wicket. Pascal in particular was looking sensational in this partnership, but after seeing a pace-bowler back into the attack after a couple of overs. He lost his concentration and ended up slashing a wide delivery straight to the fielder at backward point. The second wicket came rather quickly for Sri Lanka, but well, it was a well-made 86-run stand between Jordan Johnson and Steve Wedderburn that placed the Windies in a comfortable position. One would've even thought that the boys in maroon could even finish the game with 8 wickets in hand, but well Sri Lanka had a completely different script with them.
3:59 PM IST What an incredible game did we just witness. Sri Lanka Under-19 managed to take it to the very end but West Indies Under-19 were the one who held their nerves and were able to collect two important points in the Super Six. A heart-breaking defeat for Sri Lanka, their bowlers certainly gave it their all, but it just wasn't enough against this Windies batting line-up, which goes very deep.

Dinura Kalupahana to Nathan Sealy, 1 run

Finally, there's the winning shot! West Indies Under-19 win in an absolute cliffhanger of a game by 3 wickets with just three balls remaining. Full toss and on the stump line, Nathan Sealy works it to the square leg and shoots off for a single and helps his team win the game. A compelling and thrilling game of cricket with an excellent fight from both sides but eventually it goes in the favor of West Indies Under-19.

Dinura Kalupahana to Nathan Sealy, no run

Two dots to start. Full and dowl leg with a huge drift from middle, Nathan Sealy advances a bit across off but gets hit on his boot and to the keeper. One from four deliveries.

3:53 PM IST OUCH! Nathan Sealy has got a cut on his left palm, that means the drama does continue. 1 needed in 5 now. Meanwhile, the physio is out to have a look at Nathan Sealy.

Dinura Kalupahana to Nathan Sealy, no run

Dot to start with. Bowls it with an enclosed field on a fuller length, Nathan Sealy drives it straight down the ground over the bowler's head on a bounce with no timing at all. The fielder from the mid on region runs to stop it.
