MS Dhoni’s wife Sakshi has applied for arms licence citing threat to her life, according to Zee Media reports. The former Indian cricket team skipper got his own license in 2010 and now, the report claims that Sakshi has applied for either a pistol or a .32 revolver.
The report further states that Dhoni’s wife asked for the licence as she is mostly alone at home and also because she has to move around alone for private work. She said that this puts her life in danger and hence it is safer for her to carry a weapon.
Dhoni applied for 9mm gun in 2008 and at that time his application was rejected by the union Home Ministry. However, his second application was approved by the authorities in 2010.
When it comes to personal security, Dhoni currently enjoys Y category from the Jharkhand government and his house in Ranchi receives police protection throughout the year. In 2017, the security was increased when India lost to Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy final.
During the India vs Australia ODI series last year, Dhoni showed off his shooting skills in Kolkata when he visited the Police shooting ranges. A top police official had said Dhoni not only shot in the range but inspired the Kolkata Police recruits with a pep-talk during his visit in the afternoon.
“It’s great to host Dhoni for the second time. He’s an extraordinary marksman and inspired us all,” the top Kolkata Police official who accompanied Dhoni told PTI. “It’s a state of art shooting range at PTS and Dhoni shot both in the 10m and 25 ranges.”
