Andrew Flintoff

Age 48EnglandENGLAND
Right Handed All Rounder

A force of nature, cultural icon, and titanic match-winner, Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff captivated the cricketing world through raw power, wholehearted bowling, and an irresistible, charismatic aura. Born in Preston, Lancashire, the imposing right-handed batter and fast bowler played with an uninhibited, swaggering freedom. Standing six feet four inches tall, Flintoff combined a heavy-ball bowling action capable of high speeds with a brutal, high-leverage batting style that could clear any boundary in the world.

Flintoff made his Test debut in July 1998 against South Africa at Trent Bridge, followed by his One-Day International debut in April 1999 against Pakistan. After early career struggles with fitness and consistency, he evolved into the premier all-rounder in world cricket during the mid-2000s. His defining zenith arrived during the legendary 2005 Ashes series, where his talismanic performances with bat and ball, including a game-changing 102 at Trent Bridge and his dual half-centuries and seven wickets at Edgbaston, helped England reclaim the urn for the first time in 18 years. Across 79 Test matches, Flintoff accumulated 3,845 runs with five centuries and captured 226 wickets. In 141 ODIs, he scored 3,394 runs and claimed 169 wickets, earning ICC ODI Player of the Year honours in 2004 and sharing the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Player of the Year in 2005.

On the domestic circuit, Flintoff spent his primary playing years with Lancashire, representing the county across 15 seasons from 1995 to 2009 before making a brief Twenty20 comeback in 2014. Across his first-class career, he amassed 9,027 runs with 15 centuries and took 350 wickets in 183 matches. He also captained England in 11 Test matches between 2006 and 2007.

Appointed an MBE in 2006 for services to cricket, Flintoff retired from Test cricket following the 2009 Ashes victory, before chronic knee injuries forced his total retirement from all forms of international cricket in September 2010. Never content to settle into quiet retirement, he embarked on a sensational second act across pop culture, combat sports, and broadcasting. In November 2012, Flintoff made a headline-grabbing, victorious professional heavyweight boxing debut at Manchester Arena, outpointing Richard Dawson. Flintoff remains a high-profile elite cricket coach, cementing his status as an unshakeable giant of English cricket.
