Why Virender Sehwag called Steve Smith ‘Tubelight’ after India-Australia series
Virender Sehwag gave Steve Smith the tag of ‘Tubelight’ - a term which is generally used as a slang for dim-wit. Smith-led Australia lost to India 1-2 in a test series.
Virender Sehwag has been entertaining us throughout this cricket season with his tweets. So, when India finally wrapped up the season with a 2-1 series win against Australia to reclaim the Border Gavaskar Trophy, the fiery opener decided to give his own ‘Gharelu’ awards to the cricketers.

In the ‘Gharelu awards’ Sehwag compared several Indian cricketers with household items. But the most interesting tag was given to Steve Smith – ‘Tubelight’.
A ‘tubelight’ is generally used as a slang for dim-wit. Sehwag might be referring to the Bangalore Test, when Smith looked up to the dressing room for suggestions on taking a DRS. It led to a huge controversy, with Virat Kohli hinting that the Australia captain might have cheated.
India’s eight-wicket win in Dharamsala sealed India’s seventh series win in a row, dating back to their triumph in Sri Lanka in August 2015.
The victory also brought a successful end to India’s 13-Test home season, in which they won 10, drew two and had the lone loss to Australia in the opener in Pune.
