Delhi Police on Monday said they had busted a gang of vehicle thieves who stole cars parked outside gymnasiums in Delhi and Haryana.

Two members of the gang were arrested after a brief chase and scuffle in which a policeman was injured. Three stolen vehicles – two cars and a motorcycle -- were recovered from them.

Police said the duo -- Pramod alias Guddu,30, and Praveen alias Doctor,29 -- visited gyms as customers and stole keys of members’ cars kept at the reception desk. They used the keys to steal cars parked at the gyms.

Deputy commissioner of police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said Pramod heads the gang and is involved in around a dozen vehicle theft cases in Delhi and Haryana.

“To evade police, Pramod avoided going home and slept in cars on the roadside. Our team had information that Pramod stole cars from Delhi and Haryana and sold them in Meerut and Sambhal,” Alphonse said.

On Sunday, the DCP said, they leant Pramod and his associate would be in Dwarka Sector 23 in a stolen car.
