“The girl mentioned the rape to her teacher after which we were alerted,” said Monika Bhardwaj, deputy commissioner of police (west district).
The girl lives with her father, who is a rickshaw puller, while her mother lives elsewhere. Police said that the man would threaten the girl if she objected to the abuse.
The alleged abuse came to light during a class on “good and bad touch” and the girl opened up about her experience to her teacher, an investigator said.
The suspect is being questioned to ascertain for how long the girl was being raped, said police. The girl’s medical examination confirmed rape and her father was booked for rape and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, they added.
