Nine-year-old raped in Delhi slum, suspect yet to be identified
The incident took place when the minor had stepped out of her jhuggi to go to a nearby porta-cabin toilet on Wednesday night.
A nine-year-old girl was raped allegedly by an unidentified man in south Delhi’s Rangpuri on Thursday. The incident took place when the minor had stepped out of her jhuggi to go to a nearby porta-cabin toilet on Wednesday night.
Police are trying to identify the accused. The victim had to be rushed to AIIMS Trauma centre where her condition is now stable, police said.
Police said they were informed about the incident around 2am on Thursday, after the girl was spotted lying in a semi-conscious state by passersby.
The victim has told police that she could not see the face of the accused as it was dark.
“The girl told us that the incident took place around 1am, when she had stepped out of her house. She said she remembers a man grabbed her from behind and covered her mouth to stop her from shouting. The man then raped her and fled the spot. It was after a while that a few passersby from the neighbourhood spotted her and raised an alarm. Local residents then reached the spot and informed the girl’s parents,” said a police officer.
When the girl’s parents saw her bleeding, they called the police. She was taken to AIIMS Trauma centre and a medical examination confirmed sexual assault.
Deputy commissioner of police (southwest), Devender Arya, did not respond to repeated texts and calls.
Police said the victim had also sustained minor injuries on her body, probably the outcome of a struggle. Her condition was said to be stable by Thursday evening, an officer said.
A forensics team was sent to the spot on Thursday morning with police questioning locals and checking CCTV footages from the locality to identify the accused.
