NEW DELHI: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which swept the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections for three years, will focus on the nationalism debate, along with issues concerning students, such as hostel scarcity, for this year’s elections.

“ABVP was the only student organisation that stood against anti-national activities happening in various campuses.” “The February 9 event at JNU should not be seen in isolation, but as a series of event by leftists. We will continue to oppose such events,” said ABVP media coordinator Saket Bahuguna.
Bahuguna said the ABVP will highlight the anti-national activities by left groups as bigger national issues, during the DUSU polls. “Student issues like construction of more hostels, passing of the Room Rent Control Act and special buses for DU students will be on our agenda,” the ABVP said.
It will release its official manifesto on September 5. The ABVP is currently holding all four posts in the union.
The National Students Union of India (NSUI) said it will bring out two different manifestoes, focusing on issues of women and that of students from the northeast.
“We will bring out a special manifesto for women students and a separate manifesto for students from northeast states. This is an attempt to eliminate the notion of alienation that the students from the Northeast feel and to bridge the gap by redressing their grievances,” the NSUI said in a statement.
Elections to the student body are scheduled for September 9.
Starting Thursday, NSUI activists will go from class to class and address the issues faced by students and institutions under the present government.
The Chanakya Chhatra Parishad, a student body, has merged with the NSUI, the statement said.
