On Sunday afternoon, Bunty murdered his employer Kusum Gupta (55). His relative Sadiq, also an employee at the ration shop, and another aide Shunty were also arrested in the case.

“Bunty worked at the shop and was the most reliable hand. He never refused household chores for the family,” said a shocked Piyush Gupta, Kusum’s son. The IT employee was away on a business trip at the time of the incident.

Kusum’s family said Bunty, a father of two boys, quit the ration shop job to go to Dubai. At the shop, he was earning Rs 5,000 a month, which he said wasn’t enough. Bunty had begun driving classes for the residents.

“I met Bunty recently. He told me about his plan to go to Dubai and work as a labourer there. I wished him luck, but never thought of his intentions. I have always trusted him. He never gave us any chance to complain,” said Piyush.

After allegedly murdering Kusum on Sunday, Bunty ransacked only her room. The family said Bunty knew he would find nothing in Piyush’s room.

Guptas’ neighbour, Neeta, said Kusum was an educated woman who was aware of the happenings around her. She did not get Bunty’s details checked by police only because she trusted him enough.

“She would be alone at home most of the time, but she never opened the door for anyone. (On the day of the murder) she must have opened the door seeing Bunty’s face. She would not have known she was opening the door to her killers,” she said.
