“On a tip-off that a woman named Iran Fatima of Gokulpuri is in possession of a huge haul of fake currency, a decoy customer was sent. She agreed to sell the fake notes. A raid was conducted at her house, where Rs. 34 lakh and 34,000 fake currency notes were found,” Sanjay Jain, DCP (northeast), said.

“The woman’s son Shakir (32) and his friend Yusuf were arrested earlier by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and CBI with fake currency worth Rs. 15 lakh,” he added.

Sources said the fake currency is part of a consignment sent by the woman’s relative from Pakistan. “A relative of Fatima had sent the consignment of fake notes worth R67 lakh through train, which was received by an agent in Punjab. He gave it to Shakir in Loni. They packed the currency in three different bags and started looking for customers. The first bag was apprehended by CBI, while the police have recovered the second. We believe that R17 lakh are still somewhere,” an officer said.
