74-yr-old dies in GK fire, family blames landlord

Kapil Dev Aryan, 74 — son of renowned painter KC Aryan and owner of a shop of old books, film posters and maps in Hauz Khas Village — died in a fire that broke out in his single-room rented flat in Greater Kailash 1 on Thursday night.

The police suspect that it was caused by a burning cigarette or candle. But Aryan’s wife and daughters have alleged that the two brothers who owned the flat may have started the blaze. Aryan was fighting a case against one of them, Pawan Gupta, over vacating the flat where he had been staying for 40 years.
