Anand Sharma to stand in for Dasmunsi in Parliament

Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma has been given temporary additional charge of Minister of State (MoS) Information and Broadcasting (I&B).

Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma has been given temporary additional charge of Minister of State (MoS) Information and Broadcasting (I&B).

Sharma would also field questions relating to the ministry in Parliament next week in view of I&B Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi’s continuing ill-health.

Dasmunsi, 62, was seriously unwell for the sixth consecutive day on Saturday, after a severe heart attack. Undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, his health has shown no significant change for two days.

“His brain functioning is being monitored continuously,” doctors said. “Whether he is out of danger can only be said after his brain starts functioning properly.”

The minister has been taken off the ventilator. His blood pressure and heart rate are stableI&B MoS M.H. Ambareesh has stayed away from office after he resigned in February 2007. The PM, however, has not accepted his resignation.
