BJP councillors stage protest outside CM Kejriwal’s residence
The protestors shouted slogans against the AAP government and criticised it for calling a two-day special session of the Delhi assembly to discuss the working of civic bodies.
Scores of councillors from BJP-ruled MCDs staged a protest demonstration on Wednesday outside Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence demanding clearance of their pending dues.
The protestors shouted slogans against the AAP government and criticised it for calling a two-day special session of the Delhi assembly to discuss the working of civic bodies, saying the move is only intended to “defame” the municipal corporations.
The all three MCDs - East Delhi Municipal Corporation, North Delhi Municipal Corporation and South Delhi Municipal Corporation - have called a one-day joint session at Ramlila Ground on June 9 in this regard
Councillors and mayors alleged that the city government has not implemented the report of Fourth Finance Commission so far due to which all the BJP-controlled civic bodies are facing a fund crunch.
During the protest, the police tried to pacify the councillors and three mayors, but they did not relent. Thereafter, police brought them to the nearest police station from where they were released after sometime.
