Bishnupad Ray's allegations prompted strong protests from the BJP and other benches. He has also moved a privilege motion against the official.
On her part, Speaker Meira Kumar has called for a factual report from the home ministry. She later said such incidents should not recur. "A little insult to any member of this house is a serious matter. I am pained as it is my responsibility to protect honour and dignity of every member," Kumar observed. In his response, Union minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said the Centre views any mistreatment of any member very seriously.
