Adding to the government’s woes CBI director Ranjit Sinha said that the agency was not an autonomous body.

Responding to a query about why he had shared the draft report with the Law minister and joint secretaries of the Prime Minister’s Office and the coal ministry, Sinha said, “I am a part of the government; it’s not that I am an autonomous organization.”
Sinha added, “I have not shown the draft report to an outsider, I have shown it to the country’s Law minister.” Sinha said, “Facts on whatever situation may have emerged out of the sharing will be submitted to the honourable court by us.”
Talking about the apex court’s criticism of the CBI, Sinha said, “I don’t think we have breached the trust of the court. We have been asked to submit an affidavit on May 6 and we will do it by explaining all the facts and the circumstances.”
