Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Harin Rawal told this to the apex court bench of Justice GS Singhvi and Justice HL Dattu when the court drew his attention to media reports indicating that the CBI was planning not to oppose the bail plea of Kanimozhi.

Rawal told the court that when this report was carried by the media he got in touch with the CBI officials who denied it. He said that the media report was incorrect.

When Justice Singhvi drew the attention of Rawal to media reports that CBI would not oppose the bail plea by certain people, the ASG said that "my instructions are to oppose the bail plea".

The apex court was told this in the course of the hearing of bail pleas by the head of the telecom arm of Unitech Sanjay Chandra and promoter of DB Realty Vinod Goenka, who are in judicial custody for the alleged involvement in 2G scam.
