Chargesheet filed against 3 MHA employee in corruption case

CBI today filed a chargesheet in a Delhi court against three employees of the Ministry of Home Affairs and two proprietors of two hardware firms for allegedly causing losses to the tune of Rs 2 lakh to state exchequer in procurement of computers and peripherals.

"The chargesheet filed. Put up the case on December 10 for taking cognizance and supply of documents to five accused," Special CBI Judge O P Saini said.

The probe agency, meanwhile, informed the court that it secured the requisite sanction from the MHA to prosecute the three of its employees in the corruption case.

CBI, which had registered the FIR in 2008, has booked K C Sood, the then senior accounts officer and his two colleagues C Sharma and Jagdish Lal under various provisions of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act, dealing with conspiracy, cheating and accepting bribe.

Besides them, Pratibha Jha and her husband Mathura Nath Jha, who are proprietors of Delhi-based M/s Info-Line Software and M/s Rosy-Tech Enterprises respectively, have been booked for allegedly taking undue benefits in supply of computers and peripherals to the MHA.

The chargesheet said that in 2006, the Pay and Accounts Office Secretariat of the MHA had undertaken the process for procuring the computers and peripherals including the award of annual contract to maintain them for its offices in Kolkata, Ranchi, Patna and Lucknow.

The accused allegedly conspired and accepted the quotations of the accused firms for the purpose, which cost the MHA Rs 30.29 lakh, which was higher by Rs 2 lakh from the expenditure approved by the ministry.
