A 16-year-old schoolgirl died but her boyfriend survived after they consumed poison in north Delhi, the police said Wednesday.

According to the police, the victim and her boyfriend Vinay, 21, were in a relationship for the past six months. Vinay went to meet Anu's parents Tuesday evening to talk about marriage. But her parents refused.

“Depressed over the refusal, the duo consumed poison. They were rushed to a hospital where she died. However, the boy is stable,” said a police officer.

The girl, a student of class XI, was a resident of Shahzadpur Extension while her boyfriend lived in Shastri Nagar, the police said.
