Couple robbed at gunpoint on Vikas Marg
A couple was robbed of cash and valuables worth Rs 2 lakh on the busy Vikas Marg in east Delhi at gunpoint on Thursday night.
The incident happened when Pawan Sharma, 55, had stopped the car at the Laxmi Nagar crossing, not far from his house, to relieve himself.
The unidentified gunmen managed to flee after robbing Sharma who was coming from Gurgaon after attending a wedding along with his wife Alka Sharma.
"He stopped his car at Laxmi Nagar crossing 11:40 pm, a few metres before his house. As soon as he came out from the car, two men on a bike, who were probably following him, accosted him at gunpoint,” a senior police officer requesting anonymity said.
They asked his wife to come out and remove her jewellery. A bag containing some cash was lying at the rear seat of the car and robbers took that away too," the officer said.
Sharma, a businessman lives at Preet Vihar with his family.
"As per the victim's statement the robbers were armed with a gun and knife," the officer added. Sharma told the police that cash and jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh were robbed.
The robbers were wearing helmets so Sharma was unable to give their description.
"We have some details of the registration number and trying to locate the bike," the officer further said.
Police were scanning the footage of CCTV cameras installed at nearby metro stations. They said the robbers did not harm them. Soon after the PCR call, the police started checking two-wheelers going towards Ghaziabad.
DCP (east), Prabhakar said, "A case of robbery has been registered at Shakarpur police station and efforts are on to nab the culprit".
