Court sends MCD Deputy Commissioner to two days police custody

A Deputy Commissioner of the MCD, accused of demanding a bribe of Rs 2 crore from a businessman, was on Thursday sent to two-day police custody by a Delhi Court in New Delhi.

Ashok Kumar, the DC of Najafgarh Zone, was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Delhi Police after he allegedly demanded the amount from Raghubir Singh, for de-sealing his 'Celebration Garden' farmhouse near the IGI Airport.

"Taking into consideration the seriousness of the allegation against the accused, he is remanded to two days police custody," Special Judge A S Yadav said.

Kumar, however, refuted the allegations and said there was no demand of money on his part and there is no record to show that the exchange of money took place between the businessman and him.

The police countered the argument, saying that Kumar had agreed to accept the money and that is sufficient to charge him under Prevention of Corruption Act.
