The caller reportedly used abusive language after he was told the number he had dialled does not entertain general phone numbers. The caller, who claimed to be calling from 10 Janpath, the official residence of Gandhi, made a second call around 9 p.m. to the exchange on the same day asking the call to be put through. He threatened to take up the matter "at the highest level", the police said.

A case has been registered.
