At a time when all states and union territories are suffering from police manpower crunch, data released by the home ministry on Tuesday said Delhi Police has almost 4,000 personnel more than its sanctioned strength.

According to figures tabled by Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaisawal in the Lok Sabha, the sanctioned strength of Delhi Police as on January 1, 2006 was 62,420, while its actual strength was 66, 275.

The existing strength of Delhi Police is 6.18 percent over the sanctioned strength.

The statistics, meanwhile, showed that Bihar and Uttarakhand have 30 per cent vacancies in their respective police forces.
