The first incident, police said, was reported from northwest Delhi’s Rohini and the victim was identified as 17-year-old Mahek.

“Soon after the results were announced, Mahek shut herself in her room,” said an officer.

Her parents broke into her room hours later only to find her hanging from the ceiling fan. Mahek left behind a suicide note simply saying she was sorry.

Vaishali, another 17-year-old, was also found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room at her house in south Delhi’s Mehrauli.

“Since she did not leave behind a suicide note, we questioned her parents, who revealed that she had been depressed ever since the results were declared,” said an officer.
