The Central Zoo Authority (CZA), a regulatory body for all zoos in India, has already approved the transfer of 'Shiva', a 33-year-old male rhinoceros from Mumbai's Jijamata Udyan as that zoo is being closed down for renovation.

"This male will be paired with two females at the Delhi zoo. We want it to become a group and maybe think about a possible chance of mating if the breeding environment permits," said a CZA official. Shiva was captured in the wilds in Assam and kept at Guwahati zoo till he turned six and was later brought to Mumbai.

However, Delhi zoo officials are not sure exactly when the rhino will land.
