Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said as per the high court's order they will carry out demolition action on all sorts of deviation carried out in the society such as covered balcony, covering the setback (mandatory open area along the boundary wall) and construction of water tanks.

Not only this, the civic agency said that Saraswati Group Housing Society Limited has not even obtained a completion certificate, which is mandatory before one occupies the building.

"The court gave these directions as it was found that the society had not obtained completion certificate," said Arvind Kumar Bhatnagar, architect of the society.

The residents are now planning to hold a meeting to discuss the plan of action. "We don't know what to do. This has come as such a shock. We don't know where to go especially since no alternate rehabilitation arrangements have been made," Manisha Tyagi, a resident of the society.

The civic agency said they have no choice but to take action and will have file a compliance report as well.

According to sources, there are a number of flats in the society, which will be vertically severed from the centre to make them conform to the building by-laws.

According to the civic agency, the high court passed an order on July 29 asking the MCD to take action with respect to non-compoundable deviations so as to bring the building in conformity to the sanctioned plan.

"We have booked the building for carrying out illegal construction and police force is being arranged to take action as per the court's directions," said a senior MCD official.
