Reading out a letter signed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Deshmukh said, "This House agrees, in principle, on the following issues for a strong and effective Lokpal - citizens' charter, lower bureaucracy to be under Lokpal through an appropriate mechanism, establishment of Lokayuktas in the states."

Soon after, the activist announced that he will break his fast at 10am on Sunday. Saturday was the 12th day of Anna Hazare's fast.

The resolution was passed by both Lok Sabah and Rajya Sabha as a 'sense of house', which means the whole house was unanimously supporting it.

It was passed after a day-long debate which was started after Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee made a statement on the issue in both houses.
