Drug haul at Delhi airport

Customs officials at the Delhi airport have claimed to have found a large consignment of party drug on an Indonesian national. The consignment was being taken to Malaysia.

Customs officials at the Delhi airport have claimed to have found a large consignment of party drug on an Indonesian national. The consignment was being taken to Malaysia.

The drug - amphetamine, also known as speed - was found in the bag of one Edi Rahman Sinaga, who was on his way to the Southeast Asian country.

"The passenger was intercepted at the departure hall and was interrogated. The substance in the form of crystal powdery substance was tested by the customs officer and was found positive for amphetamine," said Neeta Lall Butalia, commissioner of customs (I&G).

The 2.9kg consignment had been concealed in the false cavity of the bag and the value of it is estimated to be over R16 crore.

Sinaga reached the airport at 8pm on Saturday. He was to travel to Kuala Lumpur by flight number MH-191 of Malaysian Airlines.

Sinaga is a student and had come to India on January 23 on a tourist visa, which was valid till February 5.
