End of CNG woes in Delhi?

The good news is that new CNG fuelling stations are being opened besides increased allocation of gas to the existing ones in and around the Capital.

HT first reported on Monday that the Centre has decided to double the supply of natural gas for the residential and transport sectors in the country. A substantial portion from the private gas producer — Reliance Industries Limited’s Krishna Godavari fields has been earmarked for supplies to city gas distribution projects across the country. Delhi, too, will soon get its share of enhanced gas supplies.

Chief minister Sheila Dikshit met Union petroleum minister Murli Deora on Tuesday to discuss sufficient availability of CNG for outlets in and around Delhi. She also requested Deora to commission supply of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) in more colonies in the Capital as PNG is cheaper and its supply uninterrupted.

Dikshit said there would be no long queues at CNG outlets here after four months, adding: “Steps are being taken to meet the demand. Increased gas allocations to existing besides commissioning new CNG stations will help in resolving the existing shortages.”

Official sources said Dikshit had told Deora about problems being faced by consumers due to queues at CNG stations as a large number of NCR vehicles came to Delhi to fill up gas.
