Even after having all possible evidence, the Ghaziabad Police are yet to take any action against Om Pal Giri who allegedly raped and later murdered his five-year-old cousin.

Two days after 19-year-old Giri alias Tiger was arrested, the police are yet to produce him in court. He is in the Murad Nagar police station lock-up.
He was earlier was arrested for allegedly killing the boyfriend of his sister. An FIR was also lodged against him in connection with the present incident for rape-cum-murder on April 18.
According to local residents, his father Jeet Giri had raped a nine-year-old girl in his neighbourhood 20 years ago and was sentenced to 14 years of jail by a Ghaziabad court.
The police are still in the process of connecting the dots even after the investigating officer said that there was sufficient indication of rape in the medical report besides the fact that she was later throttled. Also, the last person seen loitering around her house was Giri.
Crucial 45 minutes
Around 7.30am on April 18, the girl went to school, albeit a bit late and missed her morning assembly. After 15 minutes, she started vomitting. Her teacher sent her home with several students and asked her mother to come and clean the classroom, as they have no provision of a sweeper. The girl’s mother stayed at the school for 45 minutes. She was alone at the house.
When her mother returned, she found that the girl’s condition had deteriorated and even the local physician refused to attend to her. She was rushed to the City Central Hospital at Clock Tower, Ghaziabad, at 11pm. From there, doctors referred her to the MMG Government Hospital without administering any treatment. The victim was declared brought dead at the MMG Hospital at 1.10pm. Only then her father reported the matter to police. Giri was arrested by the police in the evening put in Murad Nagar lock-up.
Sure but not certain
Police investigations so far said that Giri is the main accused in the rape-cum-murder incident.
“He was last seen the next morning after the incident near the victim’s house when she was alone. Her mother had gone to meet the teachers,” circle officer Kapil Dev Singh. Even after having a lot of evidence in hand the police are still not certain. “We are giving top priority to the case. We will produce him in the court tomorrow after completion of necessary documentation,” said Sudhir Tyagi, case investigating officer.
