While 28 trains mostly bound for Bihar, Bengal, Punjab and Uttarakhand have been cancelled, six are partially cancelled and four diverted for 48 days from January 1 next year, a senior railway ministry official said.

The services of trains cancelled include Jharkhand Sampark Kranti Express, Lichhavi Express, Jalandhar Express, Janta Express and Garhwal Express.

There will be no booking for these trains from January 1 2013 to February 17, 2013.

"The cancellation of trains was announced in advance so that travellers can plan their alternatives accordingly and are put to minimum inconvenience," he said.

Railways have directed zonal railways to keep a close watch on the situation and in case there is no fog, booking for the trains, which are proposed to be cancelled, will be started with a three-day notice.

"Tickets will be sold with a condition that the trains may be cancelled in case there is fog," the official said.
