The girls, aged between 14 to 16, escaped early Sunday, eluding the security guards posted at Nirmal Chhaya complex, the observation home, at Hari Nagar.

Police said the authorities informed them of the escape almost 24 hours later.

"We came to know about the incident Monday when the authorities approached us after they failed to locate the girls," said a police officer.

Three of the girls were orphans and one was in conflict with law, police said.

Police have registered a case against authorities of Nirmal Chhaya, which helps in rehabilitation of children in conflict with law and those requiring protection and care, by providing vocational training and restoration to the family.
