Govt team to strategise on media matters

Using the occasion of DAVP calendar release for 2012, the government on Friday presented its public face by lining up members of the newly formed panel of 11 official spokespersons along with some members of the Group of Ministers (GoM) on media.

This new combined team of the GoM on media, comprising senior ministers and the young articulate faces of 11 official spokespersons, will now strategise on media matters and ensure government's proactive presence in the fast expanding particularly electronic media landscape.

Admitting the difficulties in 2011, Union home minister P Chidambaram said, "2011 had been a difficult year, but it has not been without accomplishments... (now) media will not find the government lacking in response."

He also said that while the alternative media is growing, "it will never replace the traditional media - print and electronic."

Information and broadcasting minister Ambika Soni said, "No longer will you be able to complain that there is no one to present the government stand."
