The Congress kept up its attack on the BJP and the Narendra Modi government in Gujarat, asserting that the false encounters in the state were different from those that took place in other parts of the country since they were state-sponsored.

"Although all fake encounters were condemnable and aberrations may take place everywhere, the fake encounters in Gujarat differed from those elsewhere because they were supported by the state government," said spokesman Abhishek Singhvi.

He pointed out that an independent report had indicted the state home minister and the Supreme Court had directed a senior state police official to conduct an inquiry.

Reacting to the question that the fake encounter victim Soharabuddin was a criminal, Singhvi said that by killing him, the Modi regime had ensured that Soharabuddin was beyond punishement.

The spokesman refused to comment on the reported remarks made by UP Minister Azam Khan against Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi. "Such inhabitants of the gutter don’t deserve a reply. Those who make comments like the one he did typify and exemplify the content of their comment," he said.
