Gurgaon wants metro to airport
The Haryana Government wants to connect Gurgaon with the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport through a hi-speed metro train, reports Sanjeev K. Ahuja.
The Haryana Government wants to connect Gurgaon with the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport through a hi-speed metro train.
The matter has been taken up with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
The under-construction metro stretch between Delhi and Gurgaon is likely to be completed by June 2010. But the line does not go through the airport.
“We are awaiting clearance from the Delhi government and the Centre on the project to link Gurgaon with IGI airport,” said Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Haryana's chief minister. “I have written to Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy and offered to bear the cost of the project, including the 42 metre stretch in Delhi.”
Hooda said this at the 31st meeting of the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) in Delhi.
The DMRC will also extend services to satellite towns like Faridabad and Bahadurgarh in Haryana.
“A committee headed by Union Urban Development Secretary M. Ramachandran has been constituted to look into all aspects of the extension of metro to Faridabad and Bahadurgarh,” said S. Jaipal Reddy, Union Urban Development minister after the NCRPB meet.
