Jaitley unhappy with progress of call record case

His remarks came at a time when the agency’s special cell unit is all set to file a mandatory chargesheet against one-time intelligence source Anuraag Singh on Tuesday.

The Delhi Police have not been able to unravel the complete conspiracy. The case is still stuck at Singh and his political mentors are yet to be identified.

But what has been unearthed is that call data records of Jaitley, his son and two personal drivers were sought in an unauthorised manner not only by Singh, his two associates Neeraj and Nitesh and suspended constable Arvind Kumar Dabbas but also by Delhi Police on three occasions on flimsy grounds.

On November 20, November 29 and December 3, 2012, requests for his mobile records were routed through assistant commissioners of police (operations) of three districts apparently during investigation into a foreign exchange violation racket and the Ponty-Hardeep Chaddha murder case.

While a head constable sought these records in the ‘forex violation’ case, another unit of Delhi Police sought them to find out if Jaitley knew Ponty’s brother Hardeep.

It is understood that Jaitley personally expressed concerns over the Delhi Police’s investigations after Special CP S Srivastava went to brief him on April 14.

He also expressed surprise over how easily head constables and constables were able to seek call data records of political leaders though he had never spoken or known the late Hardeep.

And although there was an attempt to rest the blame in the case on the Intelligence Bureau, its director had recently made it clear to Venkaiah Naidu, who is the chairman of the home ministry Parliamentary standing committee, that his organisation had nothing to do with the case and the entire matter was being looked into by the Delhi Police.
