Low-floor bus kills woman on BRT corridor

A 32-year-old woman was mowed down on the BRT corridor by a speeding low floor DTC bus near the Chirag Dilli flyover on Tuesday morning, reports HT Correspondent.

A 32-year-old woman was mowed down on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor by a speeding low floor DTC bus near the Chirag Dilli flyover on Tuesday morning.

People who saw the accident thrashed the bus driver, who is admitted in AIIMS Trauma centre.

Manju Devi (32) was the 10th person to have been killed on the corridor since its inception. The incident has once again highlighted lack of pedestrian facilities on the corridor.

The woman was a resident of Chirag Dilli and worked as a domestic help. She was on her way to work when the accident took place. She is survived by her husband and three children.

The impact of the accident was such that her body parts were strewn on the road due to the impact but she died on way to the hospital, police said.

A senior police officer said, “Even after hitting the woman, the driver did not stop and dragged her body for about 50 metres.”

Eyewitnesses said the woman was stuck in the middle of the corridor due to heavy traffic.

“There was heavy flow of traffic from both sides of the corridor. The woman seemed was trapped and was knocked down on the bus lane by the DTC bus. She looked confused and did not know which way to go,” said an eyewitness.

The driver, identified as Balkishan (32), has been admitted with critical injuries at AIIMS Trauma Centre. The bus was plying between Ambedkar Nagar and Mori Gate.

In another incident, a speeding Scorpio car hit four vehicles in a traffic pile up near the Chirag Dilli flyover on Tuesday evening. The car first hit a Santro and then rammed into two other cars.
