The introduction of these trains is good news for commuters as it means more carrying capacity. While the four-coach and the six-coach trains have carrying capacities of 1,500 and 2,200, respectively, the eight-coach trains can carry 3,000 people.

The DMRC will decide on the frequency of the new trains after studying the commuter rush on its busy lines. It plans to deploy as many as 68 eight-coach trains by 2013 end, sources said.

Initially, two eight coach trains would be pressed into service on Line 2 that connects Gurgaon with Jahangirpuri via Delhi University.

Trial runs are now being conducted and checks for the signaling system too are being carried out to ensure a smooth run for the eight-coach trains.
