Identified as Tahira, her husband Shamim and one Shehnaz, the trio was arrested from north Delhi’s Wazirabad on January 27 after a tip-off received regarding pushing an 11-year-old girl in their custody into flesh trade, said SBS Tyagi, deputy commissioner of police (crime and railways).

“The raid was conducted along with NGO Shakti Vahini near Chandgi Ram Akhada on the Ring Road,” said DCP Tyagi.

Interrogation revealed that the minor was Shehnaz’s own niece. Police said the accused were trying to sell the minor for R70,000.

“It was while she was working as a prostitute that Shehnaz came in contact with Tahira,” he said.
