Profession: Before entering politics, Goswami was an active journalist and worked with a national daily. He was in journalism for 30 years. He was also a lecturer in SD College, Ambala.

Education: He did his post graduation in Hindi from Kurukshetra University. He followed this with a diploma in journalism from Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan, New Delhi.

Political career: Goswami entered politics in 1998 and contested for the first time that year from Patel Nagar. He won and repeated the feat in 2003. At present, he is the chief whip of Congress Legislative Party.

Family: Wife Chander Kanta is a homemaker. They have a son and a daughter. An active sportsman during his college days, Goswami is a cricket freak. Even now he does not miss a opportunity to play his favourite game whenever he gets time. He also loves to read books on philosophy and economy.

Cars: Generally travels in a white Ambassador. Goswami also owns a Maruti 800 car.
