RLA students voice their anger

Protests started early at the college with students demanding a meeting with the principal, who is on leave for the last three days. “During the last two years, the infrastructure and security in the college has touched new lows. There is no college complaint committee against sexual harassment. We have to take appointments to meet the principal, who is never in college. Who will address our problems?” said an irate Chhavi Paul, a second year student of the college.

Classes had to be suspended in the college because of the outburst of students. Students could not be placated by teachers and demanded to meet the principal. “It is not just about the murder. Everything is wrong in this college. There is no one to lead the students,” said Mohit Nagpal, another student.

The vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh also visited the college in the afternoon and heard the students’ grievances. “If you want to take a positive action please fire the principal,” a group of students from the college said.

Singh promised the students that action would be taken against the principal if he is found guilty. Students also complained about the lax attitude of police officials and the missing transportation services.
