All roads leading to the PM’s house were blocked and cars were not allowed to pass through after 4 pm if the owner didn’t have identification.

“We had gone to Humayun’s Tomb but now that we are back, we are not being allowed to go back. I do not belong to Delhi; I’m visiting my sister. I will now have to call her outside to ask policemen to let me and my car go through,” said RV Vijay, whose sister lives in the police colony adjacent to 7 Race Course Road.

“We have orders not to let anyone through unless they can show they are residents of the area. We are also making thorough enquiries of people on foot before letting them pass,” said a police official at the barricade in front of Samrat Hotel.

Residents were advised to stay indoors to avoid trouble. A similar problem was faced by members of the Gymkhana Club on Safdarjung Road.
