Even as she denies asking women to dress carefully, National Commission for Women chairperson Mamta Sharma has come under fire, with activists slamming the panel as a parking lot for politicians.

Talking about the Assam molestation case, Sharma reportedly said women should be careful about "the way they dress...such incidents are a result of blindly aping the West".

"I've not made such comments," told HT.

NCW has been blundering its way through the case. A member of its fact-finding team revealed victim's identity to press.

"How can a member not even know that you're not supposed to name the victim," said Meenakshi Lekhi, a Supreme Court advocate.
