Vikaspuri cylinder blast: Najafgarh-Kakrola road to be named after brave Delhi firefighter

Two firefighters were killed after an LPG cylinder went off following a fire at a Vikaspuri eatery. The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to name Najafgarh Kakrola road after Hari Om Gahlot, one of the two dead firemen.

The stretch connecting Najafgarh Road to Kakrola village will now be named as Shahid Hari Om Gahlot Marg.

The announcement was made by South Delhi Municipal Corporation mayor Shyam Sharma during the house meeting on Monday.

Gahlot was among the two firefighters who lost their lives when a cooking gas cylinder exploded while they were extinguishing a blaze in a snack shop in Vikashpuri area on Friday.

According to Sharma, the decision has been taken on the demand of local councillors and residents of the area.

“Gahlot, who happened to be a resident of Kakrola, compromised his life to save others. Prior to this, he did a commendable job when a Border Security Force plane crashed in Dwarka in December 2015. In the incident, 10 people were killed on board and Gahlot single-handedly took out seven bodies from the wreckage,” said Shyam Sharma. The 49-year-old officer is survived by his wife and two children.

Sharma had also visited his family in past. “It will be a suitable tribute to the martyr and give a new identity to the area. Moreover, naming the roads after such people will influence others to work for the welfare of society,” he said.

Apart from this, on the request of Nangal Raya RWA, the entrance of Nangal Raya Pankha Road has been named after late Chaudhary Bhup Singh Tanwar Marg, who was a social worker.
